Abstract

A current review summarizes recent results in the synthesis of piperidine-based azaheterocycles of the piperidine-2,4-diones type. For simple and efficient preparation of heterogeneous compounds in racemic and enantiopure forms, both traditional (change of carbonyl compounds) and new (rearrangement of anion enolate) addition methods are available. Due to their unique structure and related reactivity profile, dione-type molecules are a convenient modern platform for the construction of piperidine-type functional systems with high synthetic and medicinal properties. This potential is successfully implemented in the creation of highly biologically active pharmaceutical compounds and synthesis of natural products.
